INSIGNIA

Come place your mark on me
Where no one else can see
Where no soul can feel
Only mine to be seen
Come put on me your logo
And wherever I’m to go
America, Britain or even Togo
It’ll be as great as mojo
Come brand me sweetly
A brand so gingerly
Or that so brashly
While still gently and lovely
Come leave with me your insignia
To mark me yours without fear
With a kiss, a touch or just a leer
Or just a memory not for share

... and the boy died.

“Buy your pure water!”

He shouts.

Going up, then down the road.

“Hey! Give me one”

She called.

He runs to her,

“Thank you ma” he says.

“You get change?

I want two water”,

Another calls,

But from across.

He’s eager,

He looks right,

Then left, and right again

While he focuses ahead.

He dashed,

But not to sell,

To his untimely death.

The car never stopped.

Screams and shouts,

Sighs and grunts,

Heralded his passing

From here to beyond.

The ground trembled beneath his father

While the sky crumbled above his mother,

With a sibling loudly silent,

Their world shattered.

Mother wailed noisily

But father, he was deep in thought,

Of a priceless loss,

Not exactly of a child

But of a cause.

His mates were just returning from school

While he returns to his creator.

I weep for humanity,

He was barely ten you see,

And the boy died.

Poem inspired by a true life story, happened just the other day, around noon at Oyingbo express road, Lagos state Nigeria. May his soul rest in peace.

NIGHTFALL

The night has come.

Welcome oh welcome!

My beauteous darkness

Coated in monstrous charcoal.

You with the single brightest eye,

Round and rich with radiance.

Twinkling stars,

Rumbling clouds,

Fading skys

And whistling wind,

Your staunch companions.

Your appearance

Heralding the sweet thought of the mini death

And the scary one of the night crawlers,

Who cause nothing

But sweet scary nightmares.

But,

You’re most welcome

Nevertheless

As nothing compares to you

Or the rest within you.
